My name is Shemic St Hillaire, and I am a young dance artist, dance maker, actor and photographer hailing from Point Fortin, Trinidad and Tobago. I am reaching out to seek your support as I embark on a significant step in my journey to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance and Choreography at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica.

For the first year of study, the total amount needed for tuition, accommodation, and fees is $16,062.55 USD.

Being accepted into this program is an incredible blessing, as it has opened a vital door for me to enhance my skills and develop as an artist. In addition to my ongoing fundraising efforts, I have diligently searched for scholarships and financial aid; however, as an international student, the options available to me are quite limited. The financial burden of tuition and associated costs remains substantial, which is why I am seeking assistance to turn this dream into a reality.

In my community, it is uncommon for young men to pursue careers in dance and the arts. I am determined to defy these odds. I believe that every artist possesses a seed of immense potential, which, when nurtured in the right environment, can thrive. For me, Edna Manley College represents that nurturing environment.

At the age of 15, dance entered my life and completely altered my trajectory. I discovered purpose, direction, and opportunities I had never envisioned. Since that moment, I have dedicated myself wholeheartedly to this journey with passion, discipline, and intention, while forging meaningful connections with others.

As a dance artist from Trinidad and Tobago/the Caribbean, the path to professional development is frequently fraught with limited resources. Through resilience, I am committed not only to excelling in my own journey but also to uplifting others like myself, particularly youth who lack access to opportunities.

With this training, I will return better prepared to create, teach, and contribute significantly to our dance community. In addition to my personal goals, I aspire to establish streamlined, sustainable opportunities for young artists in Trinidad and Tobago, utilizing dance as a transformative tool for growth, expression, and healing.

In choosing to support me, you are not merely investing in an education; you are investing in a life characterized by purpose and resilience, as well as in the future of the cultural landscape of Trinidad and Tobago.

Every contribution, regardless of its size, brings us one step closer to making a significant impact.
