The BIG SWIM … Strikes Back: ‘Around Tobago’!

The first BIG SWIM around the island of Tobago. An open water swim challenge never attempted before!!

A trifold event to promote:

  1. The beauty of wild swimming against the breathtaking back drop of Tobago’s coastline.
  2. Continuing to raise awareness of the devastating impacts of climate change, pollution and overfishing of our oceans.
  3. To encourage development of “learn to swim” programmes nationwide.

Heading up The BIG SWIM Strikes Back is Trinbagonian open-water swimmer John Procope who, last year, successfully made the impossible possible, by completing the gruelling 24 hr. epic swim from Tobago to Trinidad.

This time, John will be joined by accomplished fellow open water swimmers William Carr and Richard Conybear.

Starting from Scarborough, and circumnavigating Tobago in a clockwise direction, finishing at the Scarborough Coast Guard Jetty, the trio will be swimming from dawn until dusk, aiming to complete the swim within approximately 3 days / 2 nights.

Near-perfect weather conditions are key for a swim of this magnitude and September is being targeted.

However, an adventure of this scale is not possible without the support of others, and comes with financial challenges.

Total sponsorship request is TT$50,000.00 (Trinidad & Tobago dollars).

“Predator” Support vessel and crew : $10,000.00 per 24 hours plus $3,000.00 to cover fuel.

“Maestro Del Mar” support vessel, crew and food etc. is $10,000.00 per 24 hours. Essential to access sleeping and eating facilities at the precise location that the swim is halted at the end of each day.

Essential First Aid supplies, beverages/refreshments/food and miscellaneous items for all three swimmers.

For preparation and planning purposes we will need the full amount of sponsorship contributions as early in the month of August (2025) as possible.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
